Annually we care for approximately 12,000 animals, and is proud to have one of the highest rehoming rates in Australia. Operating Hours

The Coombabah Rehoming Centre is open 7 days a week from 10am until 5pm.
Please note If you arrive after 4pm you are welcome to come and view our animals but will be unable to adopt an animal that day as our staff use the last hour of the day to work with animals that are not yet available for adoption.
The AWL is closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.

Stapylton Rehoming Centre

StapyltonRCThe Animal Welfare League of Qld has been operating in South East Queensland for the past 50 years. With the Coombabah Rehoming Centre taking in nearly 12,000 animals each year, the demand prompted AWL to open a new Rehoming Centre in Stapylton. The Stapylton Rehoming Centre allows the AWL to cope more efficiently with the number of animals coming through the doors each year, as well as creating a new outlet for customers located in further northern areas.

With over 30 dogs at any one time and a small selection of cats and kittens it is well worth the trip. For a full list of animals currently available for adoption at the Stapylton Rehoming Centre visit our pet search page HERE.

Where is the Stapylton Rehoming Centre?

Take exit 38, follow Stapylton Jacobs Well Road for about 1.5km. Turn right into Quarry Road which is the first right after the Yatala Drive-In movies, follow Quarry Road up and around to the right and into Rossmans Road. Look out for the AWL Qld signs.

Operating Hours

The Stapylton Rehoming Centre is open 7 days a week from 10am until 4pm.
Please note If you arrive after 3pm you are welcome to come and view our animals but will be unable to adopt an animal that day. Our staff use this time to work with animals that are not yet available for adoption.
The AWL is closed Good Friday and Christmas Day.

External Rehoming Centres

RCFeetSeveral years ago the AWL Qld was approached by a pet supply outlet wishing to rehome our cats and dogs from their shop. This was quickly followed by another independent wanting to assist with the crushing numbers of cats and kittens the AWL has to deal with every year.

Now, in 2010, there are seven outlets on the Gold Coast and two in Brisbane that are rehoming on our behalf. These outlets do not sell or obtain cats/kittens from other sources and all monies obtained from the rehoming of these animals comes directly back to the AWL. Although predominantly cats and kittens are rehomed, one Gold Coast outlet and both Brisbane ones also rehome dogs on our behalf.

This programme is extremely important for many reasons:

  • First, and foremost, it makes our animals available to a wider circle of people looking for new family members
  • It allows the AWL extra space for other animals waiting to come through and, therefore, helps us keep our euthanizing numbers at a lower level than they would otherwise be
  • It gives us the ability to rehome animals that may not get on well with others but would, never the less, make a wonderful companion
  • It also assists us to get the word out there that all animals should be desexed and microchipped before rehoming

Rehome in a Foster Home

Animals that appear on the website as 'At Foster Home' are currently available for adoption but instead of being at one of our Rehoming Centres, they are staying in one of our foster carers homes.

This is for a few reasons, they may be a special needs animal or simply they may not be getting along with the cats or dogs they are sharing their pen or kennel with - but are still lovely companions. AWL Qld also use foster homes to rehome as part of our SEL - Save Every Life program.

To find out more about our Foster Care program please contact the AWL Qld Foster Coordinator 07 5509 9020, or click here to visit the fostering page.
