In November 2012 my husband and I adopted our beautiful two year old cat Ivan from the Beenleigh Rehoming Centre. I saw his picture on the AWL website and travelled from the Gold Coast to Beenleigh to meet him. I spent a fair bit of time with him in his enclosure and spoke to the staff and volunteers to find out more about his personality. I found out that he was a stray and had had cat flu. I decided on the day to go away and to consider the decision further. As I was about to leave the enclosure, Ivan stood at the pen door as if to say ‘I choose you – so let’s go!
I felt awful leaving him there and it played on my mind. I did some research and found he could live a perfectly normal healthy life however he needed to be an indoor cat. Since I live in an apartment, this was no problem. The following weekend I went back to pick him up and bring him home.
From the start, his strategy was to mount a charm offensive. He always wanted cuddles and would settle down on my lap after plenty of purring and kneading. He was so happy to have a home and wanted to make sure this was a permanent arrangement.
He was a very good boy using the kitty litter straight away and was scratch pole trained which was fantastic.
Due to his lovely blue (grey) coat, green eyes and even proportions he is often immediately mistaken for a Russian Blue.
Obviously the staff at the cat shelter thought so too because he was named Ivan which we kept because it’s suits his personality. He is totally adorable and manages a mixture of naughty and nice that makes him the funny boy he is. He is extremely inquisitive and intelligent.
Ivan is obsessed with food and even tries to sneak human food like bread, pasta, and broccoli!
Ivan enjoys balcony time where he can lay in the sun and with plenty of trees around he gets to view the natural world and is entertained for hours. He loves being with people and if someone new walks in the door he goes straight up to assess them and if they pay him some attention, they get his full approval.
I would encourage anyone who is considering getting a pet to adopt from AWLQ.
The AWLQ does a fantastic job and I was really impressed by the adoption process and how professional it was.
Thanks to their great work, we have a beautiful pet that we absolutely adore.
We plan on adopting again soon.
Kind Regards,
Adam & Christina
