ANIMAL CARE COURSE
This course is open to students aged 11-16 years, who love animals and want to learn more about working in the Animal Industry. Students will gain real-life industry experience and animal care skills in a fun and rewarding environment.

OVERVIEW & LEARNING OUTCOMES
Students work through a range of hands-on components, taught by AWLQ Education Officers. The course runs for 5 hours (9:30am – 2:30pm). Those who demonstrate the outcomes of the course receive a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the course.
The course provides:
- Knowledge and Practical Skills in the areas of Dog Obedience Training, Hydrobathing and Basic Grooming.
- Knowledge and Skills in the areas of Companion Animal Care, including Basic Vet Care.
- Understanding the needs of dogs and cats in a shelter environment and how AWLQ Animal Attendants care for these particular needs on a daily basis.
Understanding how AWLQ Rehoming Centres function – including a behind the scenes tour of our facilities and veterinary clinics and how AWLQ assists animals in need within the community.

COURSE CONTENT
- Basic Dog Obedience Training Skills.
- Dog Hydrobathing.
- Cat Behaviour and Handling.
- Small Animal Care.
- Veterinary Care for Shelter Animals.
All students receive a complete Course Content Book, with theory to support the practical work for further reading.
COURSE STRUCTURE
The course takes a minimum enrolment of 8 students and a maximum of 20. This allows our Education Officers and Instructors to teach to small groups. Sessions will be delivered as a combination of both whole group and small group lessons.
COURSE COSTS
The cost of the course is $70 per student for the day. This price includes all Learning Resources, Course Content Booklets, Dog Training and Hydro-bathing Resources and Graduation Certificate.
- Lunch is not included and students must bring their own food for each day.
- Students must wear long pants and closed in shoes.
