On Friday, 21 June 2024, businesses from across Australia will welcome their dog-loving employees into the workplace along with their four-legged companions on Take Your Dog to Work Day.

We’re encouraging all businesses and dog owners to join in the fun!

We’re excited to join once again the global initiative of Take Your Dog To Work Day on Friday, 21 June 2024. This special day serves as a reminder of pets’ important role in our lives, promoting a healthier work-life balance and fostering a more positive work environment.

#TakeYourDogToWorkDay encourages employers and employees to embrace the unique bond between humans and their four-legged companions.

AWLQ is committed to improving the welfare of animals across Queensland, and this event aligns perfectly with its mission. By participating in Take Your Dog To Work Day, AWLQ aims to raise awareness about pet adoption and encourage potential pet owners to consider giving a loving home to an animal in need.

It’s impossible to have a bad day at the office with a furry friend beside you, so make your dog an honorary employee.

The benefits

Take Your Dog to Work Day can offer positive benefits for employee productivity and well-being. Above all, the day promises to be a lot of fun for all those involved. Increased job satisfaction, teamwork, and morale have all been reported in employees who spend the workday with their pets.

There are also the added health benefits of having a canine companion in the workplace.

Research suggests that the presence of pets can substantially reduce a person’s stress level in the workplace. Pets can help to decrease depression, stress and anxiety; health-wise, they may lower your blood pressure, improve immunity and even decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Things to consider

If your company does take part in Take Your Dog to Work Day, there are a few things to consider before bringing in your canine co-worker.

It is important that employees obtain permission from their employer to take part in Take Your Dog to Work Day. Confirming your office space is safe for a dog is integral – which means ensuring there are no dangers to the animal – especially if your dog is inquisitive. Be considerate to work colleagues who may not be confident around dogs.

Also remember to bring along a water bowl, treats, toys and anything else your dog needs to have a productive day at the office. And don’t forget to be mindful of your dog’s bathroom needs while at work.

Can’t take your dog to work? You can still participate!

If your workplace isn’t a suitable environment for dogs, you can still play an important role in Take Your Dog to Work Day by hosting a morning tea and raising money for the AWLQ.

AWLQ provides a safe haven and second chance for more than 10,000 stray and homeless animals annually. The June 30 tax deadline is just around the corner, and every donation over $2 is tax-deductible so if you are able to hold a fundraising morning tea we would be very grateful.
