Adopt a larger-than-life-love.

Animal Welfare League QLD is putting the call out for new best friends.

Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is thrilled to announce its eye-catching and heartwarming campaign to raise awareness about big dogs in shelters launching today, Monday the 5th of August.

The campaign’s objective is to inject fun and positivity about big dog ownership and promote the benefits of rescuing or fostering a big dog.

At the moment, AWLQ is inundated with medium to large sized dogs and are hoping the campaign will inspire people to consider the many positives of owning a big dog.

AWLQ Marketing and Communications Manager, Caroline Esera, said adopting or fostering a big dog is a really big deal.

“Big dogs have just as much love and enjoyment to give as smaller dogs. And right now we have so many very loving big dogs waiting patiently for their forever homes,” she said.

“Larger dogs often face much longer waits for adoption and it’s tough on them. By choosing to adopt, you are saving a big dog’s life – but you’re also saving the next dog you help make room for.”

Anyone who chooses to adopt during the campaign will receive a complimentary Big Dog adoption pack thanks to AWLQ’s partners, complete with an ActiveDog big dog harness or collar and lead, a Savour Life food pack, training and behavioural support videos and a 21 day cooling off period.

“If people can’t adopt, fostering is a wonderful way to help these dogs take a much-needed respite from the shelter, enhancing their exposure to potential adopters and improving their overall wellbeing.” Ms Esera said.

“And if you can’t foster or adopt, making a donation is the best way you can help support the animals in our care. It typically costs AWLQ $750 to care for and rehome a dog, so it’s a big expense for us to bear and we can only do it with the support of the community.” Ms Esera added.

AWLQ is urging people to adopt a larger-than-life love this winter and consider opening their homes to a big dog. You will save their life. And they will change yours.
