Budgerigars, aka budgies are one of the most popular companions with their striking colour, bringing vibrancy and character into your family! River isn’t completely hand tame but definitely shows interest in their human friends so would love their new family to continue working on their confidence and handling, however, it is important that every Budgie has a companion to display their natural and normal behaviours and avoid becoming imprinted on their human companions. River requires an adequately sized cage, please keep in mind if you already have existing budgies or intend on adopting more, you may need a larger sized cage. It should be large enough to give River room to spread their wings – they love to stretch out and plenty of natural perches and browse. Budgies like to be clean so make sure to check for and clean out faeces or droppings in your cage at least every second day. You should also change the paper at the base of the cage daily and clean perches weekly. Budgies love to bathe so be sure to place a heavy bowl (such as ceramic) in River’s cage so that they can splash when they please. Budgies are active and inquisitive birds, so they need a variety of natural toys to hold their attention and fend off boredom, please refrain from using artificial rope toys as they can become impacted in the birds crop. River would love their home to include lots of perches, swings and interactive elements to stimulate their senses. Budgies also love mirrored surfaces and shreddable toys.
