The life you save today will change yours

Animal Welfare League Queensland is launching an adoption sale to rehome more than ninety adult cats at the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Ipswich Animal Rehoming Centres.

The current economic climate impacts families differently, and animals are not exempt. AWLQ acknowledges that many people are facing challenging times and are trying to navigate these – the organisation sees this daily as the community turns to them for support with their much-loved furry family members.

AWLQ Spokesperson, Craig Montgomery, said the organisation has more than 220 animals available for adoption and continues to receive a constant stream of animals that need our care and assistance.

“Our cat capacity is currently nearing a maximum level. We currently have 97 adult cats available for adoption. More are waiting for space in the adoption areas to become available. Additionally, we are caring for more than 1,100 animals daily who are in various stages of their journey – surrenders, strays or emergency boarders,” said Mr Montgomery.

AWLQ is holding a cat adoption sale from 22 to 30 April to help all adult cats find their forever homes. The adoption fee for all adult cats across the shelters will be just $29.00, reduced from $180.00.

“For families who have decided the time is right for a new pet, we hope this promotion will provide extra incentive to visit their nearest animal rehoming centres and choose the rewarding experience of adopting a homeless cat.

“There is no greater gift to an animal in our care than a loving home. The life you save today will change yours. A new furry family member will provide you with much-needed love, joy, and companionship. Studies have also found that owning a cat can lower your stress and anxiety levels,” said Mr Montgomery.

AWLQ’s usual adoption process still applies. In addition, all cats are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed.

“These treatments are valued at $354.00, so the adoption fee of $29.00 is a huge saving. So now is the time for anyone thinking about adopting a cat to welcome one into their family,” said Mr Montgomery.

All animals adopted are eligible for free AWLQ’s Friends Forever Program membership. In addition, you’ll receive a 10% discount on all products and services at AWLQ’s Community Vet Clinics and all AWLQ Animal Rehoming Centres retail items.

If you cannot adopt, AWLQ encourages the community to consider fostering an animal instead.

“Fostering saves lives. Families take in a pet who would otherwise be in the shelter, freeing up much needed space for another animal with no safe place to go. This saves the life of the pet in foster and the pet who takes their place at the shelter.

“Fostering is excellent for animals, and it’s lots of fun for those who do it. So if you have room in your heart and home to temporarily house an animal, we’d love to hear from you,’’ said Mr Montgomery.
