On 23 November 2017, we hosted a very special Golden Hearts morning tea – Christmas with Ita. The event was attended by approximately 200 people including Golden Hearts members, special guest Councillors, VIPs and our dedicated staff and volunteers.
Also in attendance was our Founding President, Neil Andersen OAM, who recently celebrated his 95th birthday and who continues to be an invaluable and integral source of knowledge and inspiration to our team.
Our special guest of honour and Golden Hearts Ambassador – Ita Buttrose AO OBE – kindly travelled from Sydney to be with us. Ita happily spent time meeting the guests and made an exceptionally insightful and heartfelt speech to an audience captivated by every word that the iconic Australian had to say.
At Christmas with Ita we were exceedingly proud and honoured to welcome Ita Buttrose as Official Patron of Animal Welfare League Queensland, alongside The Hon. Michael Kirby AC CMG. Ita will assume the role of Patron in addition to her role as Ambassador of Golden Hearts.
Ita’s commitment in highlighting the importance of pet ownership for seniors has been pivotal in making a difference to the lives of the elderly and companion animals and we thank Ita for bringing success to the Golden Hearts Seniors’ Pet Support program and personally attending Christmas with Ita.On behalf of the Board, staff, volunteers and of course all of the animals at AWLQ, we extend our deepest gratitude to Ita for her support of our organisation.
We consider it a great privilege for AWLQ to have such a respected and eminent Australian as Ita Buttrose endorse the life-saving work we do.
We warmly welcome Ita as official Patron of Animal Welfare League Queensland.
