Get Out with the Dogs these School Holidays

Get Out with the Dogs these School holidays

 5th September 2011

If you love animals and are passionate about animal welfare, then join Animal Welfare League Queensland in the inaugural ‘Out with the Dogs’ camp out on the 30 September and 1 October. ‘Out with the Dogs’ will raise much needed funds for the Animal Welfare League, a non for profit organisation dedicated to re-homing stray and abandoned animals.

The ‘Out with the Dogs’ camp out is not only a great opportunity to raise money for the upkeep of the beautiful animals currently in the Coombabah and Staplyton shelters, but a chance to spend more time with your dog, friends and family with a fun camping experience on the eve of World Animal Day.

Families’ right across Queensland will be participating in this AWLQ first on Friday 30 September and Saturday 1 October helping the shelter. All registered ‘campers’ are encouraged to take photos of their camp set up with your pet, friends and family, and tell the AWLQ about your experience.

By sending the AWLQ your photos and stories not only will you go into the draw to win the ‘Best Camp Set Up’ prize thanks to Sizzler, but also go into the draw to win one of four ‘Most Money Raised’ prize packs thanks to local businesses including Go Camping and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

Zoe Hinds, Community Engagement Officer of the AWLQ hopes animal lovers everywhere will participate in the fundraiser. “We have so many kids come out on school excursions who leave wanting to do something to help. We thought this would be a great opportunity for kids to get outside and do something fun in the school holidays that makes a difference.”

“The money will go straight towards helping keep the shelter open and give animals the chance of a new home,” Ms Hinds says. It costs approximately $500 per dog or cat to put through the re-homing process, including feeding, housing, veterinary care and administration costs. If you want to be involved but can’t camp out on the World Animal Day weekend, the AWLQ encourages you to have your camp out during the school holidays week of Monday 26 September to Friday 30 September.

Anyone who wishes to raise money but not camp out is also encouraged to do so through work places, your local sporting clubs and school. By participating or donating to ‘Out with the Dogs’, you will help AWL Queensland who take care of approximately 10,000 stray and abandoned animals a year throughout South East Queensland.
