Animal Welfare League QLD’s hosting a fa-boo-lous Halloween Adoption Sale!

This Halloween, Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) invites you to treat yourself to a new furry family member.

From Monday the 21st of October to Sunday the 3rd of November, AWLQ will host a Howl-o-ween adoption sale, offering special discounts on adult cats and dogs to help pets find their forever homes.

For those considering adding a four-legged friend to their household, this is the perfect opportunity. During the sale, adult cats can be adopted for frightfully great prices of just $29, and adult dogs for only $99 — making welcoming a new pet even easier.

“At AWLQ, we believe every pet deserves a loving home, and our Halloween adoption sale is a great way to encourage people to open their hearts and homes,” said Caroline Esera, Marketing & Communications Manager. “With significantly reduced adoption fees, it’s easier than ever to adopt the most amazing companion.”

The adoption event provides the chance not only to bring home a new best friend but also to support AWLQ’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of animals. The sale will take place at all AWLQ’s Animal Rehoming Centres.

Throughout the adoption sale, AWLQ’s standard adoption procedures will apply. All pets available for adoption are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated and treated for worms, ensuring they are ready for a fresh start in their new homes.

Tips for keeping pets safe during Halloween

As Halloween approaches, AWLQ also reminds pet owners to keep their pets safe during the festivities.

“Halloween is a time for fun, but it’s important to take precautions to ensure pets stay healthy and safe,” added Ms Esera. “We encourage owners to follow these safety tips to avoid any Halloween frights.”

  1. Secure Your Pet Indoors: Keep pets inside in a quiet, secure room to prevent fright, loss, or injury. Make sure they have access to food, water and toys for enrichment.
  2. Store Halloween Treats Safely: Keep candy and treats out of reach, as some can be toxic to pets. Know the location of the nearest emergency vet clinic in case of accidental ingestion.
  3. Choose Pet Costumes Wisely: If dressing your pet, ensure the costume is comfortable and doesn’t restrict movement, breathing, or visibility. Avoid accessories that can be chewed or swallowed.
  4. Pet-Proof Your Decorations: Keep candles, string lights, and other decorations out of reach. Avoid items that may be tempting for pets to chew on or play with.
  5. Update Identification Tags and Microchip Details: Make sure your pet has an ID tag with your current contact information, and verify that their microchip details are up to date.
  6. Minimise Noise and Stress: Create a calm space to help reduce anxiety from doorbell rings or trick-or-treaters.
  7. Be Mindful of Visitors: Monitor your pet’s reactions to strangers. To avoid unnecessary stress or accidents, keep pets indoors and away from the door during trick-or-treating.
  8. Provide Pet-Friendly Alternatives: Use treat-dispensing toys, puzzle feeders, or special chews to help keep anxious pets occupied.

By taking these precautions, pet owners can help ensure their pets remain safe and stress-free throughout the Halloween celebrations.
