QLD cat missing for four years reunited with owner 2,500km away – thanks to microchip

A heartwarming reunion has taken place after a lost cat, Archimedes, was recently handed in to the Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ).

The ten-year-old feline’s microchip led to a remarkable discovery: his original owner, now based in Hobart, had been searching for him for years.

Archimedes went missing from his owner’s South East Queensland property four years ago. Despite an exhaustive search, including posting flyers, reaching out on social media, and spreading the word locally, the beloved pet had disappeared without a trace. His owners had eventually lost hope that he was still alive.

However, when Archimedes was brought to AWLQ, his microchip was scanned and the team was able to contact his owner. The news that Archimedes was alive and well left his owner, Daniel, deeply moved.

“We never imagined we would see him again. We looked for him but eventually gave him up for dead. My family, including my young daughters, were reunited with Archimedes over the weekend and we’re so thrilled he’s back.” said Daniel.

Archimedes has arrived safely in Hobart and his owner says that he has settled in beautifully, bringing much joy and relief after such a long time apart.

This incredible story underscores the vital importance of microchipping pets and ensuring contact information is always up to date. Microchips are an invaluable tool in helping lost pets find their way home, even after extended periods of separation.

“We’re so thrilled to have played a part in reuniting Archimedes with his family and it’s an important reminder for all pet owners to ensure their pet’s microchip details are current in case they ever go missing,” said Caroline Esera, AWLQ Marketing and Communications Manager.
