We understand some of the common beliefs. Big dogs can be boisterous. They can jump up. They might sit on the cat.
But the fact is; big dogs are loyal and extremely loving.
And in desperate need of homes.
Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ) is running a ‘Big Dog’ campaign to encourage the community to open their hearts and homes to adopt a big dog, or assist with their rehoming through fostering or donations.
We’re on the hunt for testimonials from big dog owners and foster carers who can vouch for how incredible big dogs really are. The testimonials may be featured on our social media pages, which have a combined following of over 300,000 animal-lovers.

To enter, please submit a video or short story about your big dog. You can submit one testimonial for every big dog you own or are currently fostering (big dogs are classed as 20kg+ including puppies that will grow to this size).
Video testimonial = 5 entries
Short story testimonial = 1 entry
Video Testimonial
Film a 60-90 second video in a ‘piece to camera’ style introducing your big dog and telling us what makes them a great companion.
We recommend filming with your dog (if possible) in a bright, quiet location (e.g. outside in some shade or inside facing a window).
Video specifications:
- Portrait (vertical) orientation
- Minimum resolution 720x1280px (most smartphones and tablets are suitable)

Short Story Testimonial
Write a short story introducing your big dog and telling us what makes them a great companion. Please add 3-5 high-quality photos of your big dog.
Image specifications:
- Original images only (no screenshots)
- Resolution: minimum 1080px on the shortest side (most smartphones and tablets are suitable)
Terms and conditions
*One video or short story submission is accepted for every fostered or owned big dog. Big dogs are classed as dogs weighing 20kg+ as an adult, including puppies who will grow to this size. Testimonials about all owned and fostered big dogs are welcome – they do not need to come from Animal Welfare League Queensland (AWLQ). Entries close Saturday 31 August 11:59pm AEST. Winner will be randomly selected and contacted on Friday 6 September.
